Torrevieja is situated on the coast in the southern part of the Valencian Community, it is surrounded by two large and beautiful natural salt water lakes which form the renowned "SALINAS DE TORREVIEJA", the Torrevieja salt works, considered to be the largest producers of salt in Europe and the second largest in the world.

Fully communicated by the Motorway of the Mediterranean (A-7), it lies only 35 km from the international airports of EI Altet (Alicante) and San Javier (Murcia), and is linked with Madrid, the capital of Spain, by the Madrid-Alicante dual carriageway road

Present-day Torrevieja is a major Tourist Centre and one of the most important on the Mediterranean coast. The two lagoons forming the "Salinas de Torrevieja", officially protected and declared a Nature Reserve, give the municipal district the semblance of a "Salt Island". The concentration of salt and the temperature combine to endow it with a particularly healthy microclimate, recommended by specialist doctors around the world for its beneficial properties in relation to heart, rheumatic and lung conditions

Bathing in the salt lagoons is becoming more and more frequent and popular, given their high concentration of salt and their mud's, which are excellent for arthritis, skin and heart complaints.
Torrevieja has a very dry climate with 340 days of sunshine and an average annual temperature of 18 degrees centigrade, are added such attractive and welcoming features as its magnificent beaches of fine sand (awarded the EEC blue flags), its squares, promenades, parks, gardens, and nature reserves, such as the two "redondas" of Las Salinas de Torrevieja and La Mata, protected and recognized internationally for their considerable ecological value, which occupy 53.3% of the municipal district. Also worth highlighting in this connection are the "Molino del Agua" (Water Mill) Estate, located to the north of the city and which is to be a future Nature Classroom, and the "Lo Ferriz" tropical estate to the south. In addition Torrevieja has three newly created municipal parks. Popularly known as "Dona Sinforosa", "De las Naciones" and "Antonio Soria", they cover a combined area of over 500,000 m2.
